๐Ÿ˜จ Flint Residents Could See Children Taken For Not Paying Toxic Water Bills

ย And If They Pay, Child Endangerment is the Felonyย  (-ed)ย ย USย |ย 22:29 25.01.2016(updated 04:25 26.01.2016) http://sptnkne.ws/a52Tย

After endangering -- and knowingly harming -- residents in Flint, Michigan, the government is reportedly threatening to take the children of those who opt not to pay to have the toxic water pumped into their homes.

According toย Michigan law, parents are considered toย be neglectful if they do not have running water inย their home, so if they do not pay forย Flintโ€™s poisonous water, they could be found guilty ofย child endangerment. Alternet reports that local activists have spoken outย about threats already having been made toย local families.

"I would certainly not bathe a newborn or infant inย Flint water," Attorney General Bill Schuette said duringย a news conference onย Monday.

There are currently two lawsuits that have been filed byย residents toย have the city void all water bills sinceย April, asย the water was unsafe.

โ€ข "Essentially, the residents have been getting billed forย water that they cannot use," Trachelle Young, one ofย the attorneys representing four Flint families told reporters onย January 19. "Because ofย that, we do not feel that is a fair way toย treat the residents."

The problem withย Flintโ€™s water began inย April 2014, when the city stopped receiving its water fromย Detroit, instead shifting toย water fromย the Flint River, which is known toย have a high salt content. Corrosive salts inย the water damaged the pipes, which contain lead, causing that material toย be released intoย the water, and contaminating it.

Flint city emergency manager Darnell Earley, appointed byย Republican Governor Rick Snyder, was responsible forย the shift.

In October, the state changed the cityโ€™s drinking water source back fromย the corrosive Flint River toย the Detroit water system, butย warned that the water still is not safe.

A study conducted byย scientists atย Virginia Tech tested the water inย 271 Flint homes last summer and found some contained lead levels so high that they fell underย the EPA's definition of "toxic waste."

Recent estimates have found that it may take upย to 15 years and over $60 million toย undo all the damage caused toย the water system, and inย the meantime, the state has ruled that residents may not sell their homes, asย they are known toย carry contaminated water. Though this is throughย no fault ofย the homeowners, and is entirely the fault ofย the government.

The US Department ofย Justice has launched an investigation intoย whether any criminal laws were broken inย the poisoning ofย Flintโ€™s children.
